For certain flows where natural particles suspension is not sufficient to generate usable echo the addition of artificial particles is required.

Particles density should be as close as possible to the measured liquid one to minimize inertial and Archimede forces while their respective acoustic impedance should be as far as possible to maximize acoustic reflection.
Particles size should be around the quarter of wavelength of the emitted ultrasound to optimize signal reflection and transmission.

An alternative to solid particles are gas bubbles, which are non-polluting and interesting for very large liquid volumes and pretty high velocity flows. In water a hydrogen bubble generator can be easily set up, please contact us for further details.
